A much-loved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, began her new adventure today. Born in Tyler, Texas, to Lucille and Owen George, she spent her childhood in Oak Cliff, graduating from Sunset High School. She thoroughly enjoyed her years attending SMU with all those GIs returning from WWII. She graduated in 1949 with a degree in English Literature and married Robert P. Stewart, Jr., in 1950. That union produced four children: Kathi Stewart (1954-1974), Anne Stewart Jones (Robert), Rob Stewart (Reneé) and Owen Stewart (Janie). Her grandchildren are: Sarah Jones (Robyn), Taylor Stewart (Karlene), Ryan Stewart, Tobin Beilue (Lindsey) and Hunter Beilue. She had three great-grandchildren: Marina Beilue, Reagan Jane Beilue, and Perri Jane Stewart. Betty Lou especially enjoyed recent visits from her youngest great-granddaughter, Perri. Betty Lou's whole face would light up when she came to visit. The attraction was mutual. Her passion for life, family and friends was never-ending.
Betty Lou was a 70+ year member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She was a 72-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter K, serving in almost every office over the years, until poor health kept her from attending.
Betty Lou had a bit of wanderlust. She was always game to explore. Many trips to Europe, a cruise up the Amazon and Alaska were a few of her destinations. She was an incredibly active member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church until the call of the mountains in Angel Fire, NM, or the tranquility of her lake house drew her away. She enjoyed an active life until poor health mandated her move to The Village of Stonebridge Assisted Living and then The Tradition Assisted Living.
She received excellent care at T. Boone Pickens Hospice. We couldn’t have asked for more caring and gentle caregivers to help Betty Lou and the family through this transition.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Lumin Education, 924 Wayne St., Dallas, TX, 75223.
