Ms. Griffin was raised in Cooper, TX, and graduated as a high honor student from Cooper High School in 1945. She spent her entire life in Dallas, TX, where she worked in Claim Services as an office manager at Provident Life Insurance Company for 34 years, retiring in 1988. After retirement, Billie Jean worked as a volunteer for Baylor Hospital of Dallas from 1990 to 1995.
Ms. Griffin was well versed in the Bible, and was of the Baptist faith. Billie Jean was a beautiful lady inside and out, dignified and perfectly manicured at all times. She loved the beautiful things of God’s creation, particularly birds, flowers, and green plants, and her home was a reflection of that love. Billie Jean was “quick witted,” and enjoyed crossword puzzles, riddles, and the “Wheel of Fortune” game show. Among her many hobbies she enjoyed painting, sewing, crafting, and cooking. The most cherished in Billie Jean’s life was her family and friends. She had many life-long special friendships, and cherished every moment she could spend with her sisters and nieces and nephews.
Ms. Griffin was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Jimmie; and her only child, John Mark Griffin.
She is survived by her sisters, Melba Small of Dallas, TX, and Sue Reynolds and husband Gene of Balch Springs, TX. Most beloved to her was her special nephew, Joseph G. Wyble, MD of Little Rock, AR; niece, Kathy Hyde and husband Butch of Grand Saline, TX; niece, Barbra Alsip of Dallas, TX; nephew, Troy Harper and wife Licia of Dallas, TX; niece, Candace Barcenas and husband Tony of Round Rock, TX; Arica, Montana and Ashley Conner of Seagoville, TX; and Donna Godwin of Oregon; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Heartfelt appreciation is extended to Barbra Alsip, Melba Small, Kathy Hyde, and Candace Barcenas for their loving care in BJ’s last days, Faith Presbyterian Hospice of Dallas, and long-time friend and physician Stuart Owen, MD.
