Billie was born on April 28th, 1934, in Amherst, Texas, the daughter of Floyd Alvin Brackenridge and Verba Beatrice Callis.
Billie was the oldest of seven siblings – Clifford, David, Kenneth, Yvonne, Barbara, and Jerry. She dropped out of school in the 8th grade to help her mother raise the children at home. Growing up, she moved to various cities including Dennison, Houston, Cedar Hill, and Duncanville to name a few. When she retired, she got her GED.
Billie married Henry “Hank” Everett Sutton on May 14th, 1955, in Dallas County by Ed. H. Steger. Hank would ride his horse Bodie to where she lived every day for three days until she agreed to marry him. They were married for 56 years until his passing at the age of 86 on February 11th, 2011. She has four loving children, Thomas “Tommy” Alvin Sutton, Butch Sutton, Susan Sutton, and Floyd Henry Sutton, 13 grandkids, 21 great grandkids, 15 great, great grandkids, and 1 great, great, great grandkid that think the world of her and lovingly call her “Mom,” “Mudder,” “Memaw,” and “Grams.”
Billie worked in various places, including a shoe store with her husband’s cousin, giving out free samples for major retail stores such as Kroger and Walmart, and a paper route that her and her husband would faithfully follow every morning with their dog Bubba for many years. If she didn’t join Hank trucking along the America’s, she enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother and wife.
Billie adored above all else her family and friends. She is remembered for her flower beds, wonderful home cooking, and loving her many, many animals (grand dogs and grand cats). Church had a special place in her heart, right alongside her family. She attended Cahill Methodist Church until she could no longer do so. She loved reading various books, chief among them her precious bible, and traveling abroad to various cities in South America.
Billie was loved by many. She was always so welcoming to others; one of those moms that allowed any kid no matter the age to drop in without moment’s notice. Hungry? She’d feed you. Tired? She’d give you a bed or couch. Frustrated? She’d lend you her ear. She did all of this with a smile gracing her lips. Billie also enjoyed nature walks with her friend Evelyn and sitting outside on her porch enjoying the sunshine and peace.
There is not one thing that defines Billie as being special. She was a selfless person, giving her all whenever it was needed. She helped raise her granddaughter for over eleven years. She took care of her husband until the very end when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s
Disease. She was a kind, honest, courageous, and patient person overflowing with love and acceptance for anyone or anything. Any virtue you can think of, she possessed it.
Remaining to cherish Billie’s memory are one son, Floyd and his fiancé Cathey; 14 grandkids - TA, Billie Joe, Amy, Stephanie, Daphne, Charlie, Tara, Hiccup, Ashley, Amanda, Scott, Cliff, Andy, and Eric; 20 great grandchildren - Alec, Zach, Danny, Grace, Morgan, Leslie, Jonathon, Crystal, Laura, Shane, Jacob, Benny, Theodore, Charlie, Lauren, Tommy, Clara, Jules, Andrew, and Henry; one sister, Barbara, numerous nieces and nephews, one sister-in-law, Jan, and her best of friends, Lilly, Nelda, Colleen, Evelyn, and Nancy. Billie, Nelda, and Evelyn were considered the three oldest residents in Venus.
Preceding Billie in death is her husband, Hank; three children, Tommy, Susan, and Butch; her parents Floyd Alvin, and Verba; five siblings – Clifford, David, Jerry, Kenneth, and Yvonne; and her friends The Richardsons and The Garnets.
