

Carl Preston Wallace died on September 1st at the age of 82. He was born in Dallas on November 13, 1928 to Sam Preston and Bobbie Kincanon Wallace. Carl grew up in the Park Cities area and attended Highland Park High School. He formed life-long friendships there as starting player on the state co-championship football team of 1945. He was also co-captain of the H.P. basketball team. Carl attended Southern Methodist University, playing defensive end on the 1947 and ‘48 Southwest Conference Champion football teams and was a member of the SAE fraternity. Carl graduated with honors with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and joined the family firm, C. Wallace Plumbing, founded in 1913. Soon after, Carl and his family formed Sam P. Wallace Co., which became the largest mechanical construction firm in the world. Carl thrived on his business travels around the world and treasured his many international friendships. Although Carl spent most of his career in construction management, he was a licensed master plumber, a registered professional engineer in six states, and a member of the Steamfitters Union. Carl was a member of the Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, which his parents helped to found. Carl is survived by his brother Robert and wife Patsy Wallace, children Preston and Peggy Wallace of Detroit, David and Christine Wallace of Dallas, Ruth and Frank Henshall of Houston, Wendy and Chad Tiedt of Chicago, Patrick and Lindsey Wallace of Lewisville; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Sparkman/ Hillcrest Funeral Home at 7405 W. NW Highway in Dallas on Wednesday September 7th at 2pm. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital or Lovers Lane United Methodist Church.
