Carol Crutcher Shircliff of Dallas, TX passed away on Nov. 2, 2024. In home hospice since Sept. 2024, she inspired others with her positive outlook in happy anticipation of Heaven. Carol’s resolute faith in her Heavenly Father is the foundation upon which she built her life.
Carol was born on Oct. 27, 1935 to parents Harry (Major General, USAF, Ret.) and Ruth Crutcher, who were stationed at March Field, CA at the time. Her father retired from the Air Force when Carol was eleven years old and the Crutchers moved back to their hometown of Dallas, specifically Highland Park and Holy Trinity parish. Carol, a fifth generation Dallasite, was a proud graduate of Ursuline Academy and attended Southern Methodist University and The University of Texas at Austin.
Shortly after college, Carol married Air Force officer Thomas Shircliff, Sr. and over the next 20 years, dutifully packed up and moved the Shircliff family to exotic locales including Topeka, KS, Homestead, FL, Rapid City, SD, and Altus, OK before settling down for good in Dallas in 1973. Every position she held both professionally and as a volunteer focused on serving others. She helped develop the faith formation program in Altus, taught second grade at St. Bernard’s Catholic School in Dallas, and initiated the Ministry to the Elderly at Holy Trinity parish. She started her real estate career with Phil Ross Realtors primarily helping first-time homebuyers find their dream homes. She volunteered with the Dallas Vocations Guild and the Ladies of Charity.
Carol is preceded in death by parents and her son Thomas Shircliff, Jr. (Lt. Col. USAF, Ret.). She leaves behind daughters Dian Shircliff, Lauren Caton (Sean), Tricia Greene (Chris), son Cullen Shircliff (Sara Jane), and daughter-in-law Kristine Shircliff. She is also survived by brothers Harry “Buzz” Crutcher III (Carolyn), Mike Crutcher (Cristal), and sister Caye Hunter (Donnie).
Carol’s greatest joy was spending time with her 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Over the years, she traveled thousands of miles across the U.S. to celebrate significant life milestones with them including First Communions, Confirmations, school plays, sporting events, high school and college graduations, weddings, holidays, and sometimes just because. To say her family and friends will miss Carol greatly is an understatement. She often neglected the needs of herself for the well-being of those she loved.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00am on Monday, Nov. 11 in the North Chapel at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, 75220. A small reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, Carol requested donations may be made to the Dallas Vocations Guild and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
