Carrie born 1935 in Buckner Arkansas to Lonnie and Rosa Richardson. Raised with sister’s Verlena Johnson (preceded her death), JoAnn Wilson (preceded her death), Tessie Woodard, and Betty Jean Richardson (preceded her death). She was educated at Lincoln High School in Ruston Louisiana, she received a cosmetology license and worked as a beautician for a year at Madam CJ Walker Cosmetology School after realizing that was “not her calling” as she put it.
She further her education by attending Grambling State University 1955-1957; She moved to Dallas Tx and began working at Baylor University Hospital as an aide and began her focus on other opportunities to become a nurse. She graduated from Baylor College of Medicine Nursing Program earning her Vocational Nursing license; and later El Centro College Nursing Program; Internship with Terrell State Hospital. After hard work and sacrifice she earned a license as a Registered Nurse in 1976 .
Carrie accepted Christ Jesus as her savior and spoke of her personal relationship and faith in God always. She belonged to St. Peter Methodist Church as a child, then jointed New Hope Baptist Church where she was baptized at age 11. She moved her membership to Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church 3501 San Jacinto Street Dallas, Tx where she served for many years until her health and the caregiving duties of her mother took a toll. She and her mother remained faithful in their giving and continued to fellowship with church members and the pastor in her living room.
Her marriage in 1958 to Jesse Oliphant Jr (precede her death) inspired the births of Angela, Michael and Steven. During their ‘courtship’, because of Jesse’s shy personality she didn’t know he was trying to date her until a couple of months later, she thought he was just a friend of the family just hanging out…Really Mama?
Even as a young girl she dreamed of having dinner with a husband and kids at the dinning room table. Her dreams of having a family came true, she and husband raised a family and passed on their wisdom and love to be shared by generations to come. She made friendships of a lifetime and lasting impressions on lives needing motherly advice or a listening ear.
She instilled in her family the importance of leaning on God for direction and to love each other. The foundation she established years ago is evidence of her legacy today. Her legacy lives on in her three children, son-in-law Karl Sr.; daughter-in-law Stacey; grandchildren Brandy, Karl II, Kevin (J’va , Ke’liyah, Serenity, King), U’Tona (Madison), Courtney, Brittany, Ashley, Justyn, Yasmine.
Her career in nursing was an opportunity that she never took lightly, she prided herself in caring for her patients. She was humble and knew her responsibilities to serve and to do for others who could not do for themselves. That attitude also carried over into her personal life being the caretaker for her husband and later her mother.
Her belief according to scripture : “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
She sacrifice plenty but she gained so much more…God’s mercy and grace was always present until her last breath. The family is truly thankful for His mercy!
