Chariss Denise Hayes was born on November 12, 1964 in Houston, Texas, to the parentage of Willie Ray Hayes and Patricia Ann Hayes; she is the only child born to this union. She received her public education in the Houston School System, the Carol Stream Illinois School System, and the Dallas and Desoto School System. She graduated from Desoto High School, attended the University of Houston, and in 1989 graduated from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Finance.
Chariss started her Federal Career in 1990 as an Assistant National Bank Examiner, and was employed by the Dallas, Texas Field Office. She received her initial training in the Little Rock, Arkansas Field Office, and had over 30 years of experience with the Office of Comptroller of Currency in three Field Offices (Little Rock, Arkansas, Dallas, Texas and Washington, D.C. ) as well as serving in the Southern District Office's Training Center. Chariss had an extensive bank supervision background in multiple disciplines and considerable expertise in training operations. She was a dedicated OCC employee; always taking that extra step making certain that the work was completed accurately and timely.
Throughout her career, Chariss served in various important roles and critical assignments at the OCC to include: Acting Southern District Bank Information Technology Lead Expert Support, Voter For Shared National Credit Reviews, Acting Assistant Deputy Comptroller Analyst For Fort Worth, Texas Field Office, and National Bank Examiner Training Officer for the Southern District. Recently Chariss also served as the Chapter President of the National Treasury Employee Union's Southern District Chapter.
Chariss was commissioned as a National Bank Examiner in the year 2000, obtained an Industry Certification as a Certified Fiduciary and Investment Management Specialist (CFIRS) in 2008, and earned the Federal Thrift Regulator Cross-Credential in 2015. In addition to her career at the OCC, she also worked for a period of time at the National Credit Union Association in Washington, D.C. The Office of Comptroller of Currency acknowledges with grateful appreciation all of her contribution to the agency. Chariss will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Chariss was a member of High Point Baptist Church in Cedar Hill.
