Christine McDermott of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021, in her home in Dallas, Texas. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to all that knew her.
She was born September 16, 1923, in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland ,to parents James Carswell and Nicholas Brodie Andrew. Her father immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island, New York, soon after Christine’s birth. Christine and her mother joined her father in 1925 and settled in Waterbury, Connecticut. Other family members immigrated and settled in Connecticut.
The family faced struggles during the Great Depression, but with the support and love of an extended family, they placed their trust in God. These experiences established the foundation of the prayerful, vibrant, cheerful, thoughtful, loving woman she was. Christine (Chris) married Robert (Bob) Donald McDermott on November 12, 1948, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in West Haven, Connecticut. Chris and Bob were married for more than 67 years and were inseparable. They lived in Connecticut, ran a business, McDermott Steel Specialties, Inc., raised two sons and enriched the lives of many nieces and nephews. They eventually retired to Port Richey, Florida, in 1985 to be close to friends and those who served with Bob in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 2012, they moved to Dallas to be closer to family. Chris was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas.
She is survived by brother James C. Andrew and wife Patricia of West Haven, Connecticut; sons Brian T. McDermott and wife Sylvia, of Savoy, Illinois, and Robert J. McDermott and wife Kathryn, of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Kara Reller and husband, Nicolas, Kelly Tuttle and husband Ronald, Stephen McDermott, Robert McDermott, Kristin McDermott, Andrew McDermott and wife Lu Qing, Evan McDermott, Thomas McDermott; as well as three great-grandchildren, Stephen, Henry and Margaret Reller.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers Gordon Andrew and Thomas Andrew.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind, Inc. of New Port Richey, FL.
