Cora Lee Green-Wright was a Phenomenal Woman who knew “WHOSE” she was, “WHO” she was, and “WHY” she was here. She was on assignment for the Most High God. However, that assignment ended on February 24, 2022. Cora was born on March 30, 1943, in Lamar County, Texas to the parentage of the late Robert J. Green and Opal Lee Connally-Green. Cora loved the Lord and joined church at an early age and was baptized at Hills Chapel Baptist Church in Prairie Point, Texas. She was the youngest of five children (Sarah, Marva, Ora, & Charles). She graduated from H.G. Smith High School (Roxton, Texas) in May 1960 and then enrolled in Paris Junior College where she obtained an Associate of Arts Degree in May 1962. From there, she enrolled in North Texas State University (NTSU) where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a Minor in Education with a lifetime Teaching Certificate for the State of Texas in May 1965. Cora also met the love of her life at NTSU, the late Roy Dean Wright. They were engaged on Thanksgiving Day 1964 and married on December 26, 1964. From that union, they produced two beautiful daughters, Rebecca Lynn Wright and Corene Lynnette Wright.
Cora started her career in the education field but her love for business never wavered. In her forty-five plus years of professional business endeavors, she has worked for the federal government, the banking industry, an independent Watkins representative, owned a successful real estate brokerage (Cora Wright Real Estate, Inc.), and worked as an equal partner and licensed agent with her late husband (Roy Wright Agency- State Farm Insurance). Cora also knew that giving of oneself outside of the business arena was equally important. She has been a faithful member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church since 1968. She actively served the church in the following capacities: as an Elder, a Deaconess, a Session Member, a Committee Member for the Synod of the Sun, Presbytery Commissioner, National Black Presbyterian Caucus Member, and a Sunday School Leader. Cora also enjoyed serving civically. She was a Life Member of the Dallas Metropolitan Business and Professional Women’s Club, a former chairperson for the H.G. Smith High School Alumni Association, and a former treasurer for the Agape Book Club.
Cora Lee Green-Wright was a compassionate person who never gave up on people. She had a smile that would light up a room and a countenance to match! She had a wonderful sense of humor and she loved to laugh! She freely gave out practical wisdom but not her recipe for Thanksgiving Chicken and Cornbread Dressing. She loved GOD. She loved her family. She loved her career. She loved volunteering. She loved her friends. Her life was one that was well lived!
Cora will be missed because our human hearts miss her earthly presence. However, we as a family rejoice in our Spirits because she is in the presence of our Lord and Savior, CHRIST Jesus and we shall see her again!
Cora is preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; her sister, Sarah Fort; her sister Ora Nancy Wilson; her brother, Charles Green; and sister Marva Joe.
Cora leaves to cherish her precious memories: beloved daughters Rebecca and Corene Wright; beloved granddaughter Lauryn Cora Jean; Aunt Pauline Frances Green (Charlie- deceased); 1st Cousins Icyrene Green-Carey (Marvin); 1st Cousins Samuel Green (Mary); 1st Cousins Ruby Green-Cherry (Jesse); Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Samuel and Susan Wright; Sister-in-law Lillian Green (Charles-deceased); and godparents to her daughters Dr. Joetta Newman (Dr. Willie Newman-deceased). She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to keep her remembrance.
