

Cruger S. Ragland, 82, died in his home surrounded by his family on September 19, 2015. Born on August 7, 1933 to Lila and Alfonso Ragland, Cruger grew up in Dallas, TX and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1951. Upon graduation from the University of Texas in 1954, where he earned a business degree in real estate and insurance, Cruger joined his father at Ragland Insurance Agency. While he received numerous awards for his professional contributions to the insurance industry, it is the integrity with which he approached the business that will never be forgotten. Outside of work, Cruger was an avid handyman and woodworker. Everyone who knew Cruger knew his one-of-a-kind character. He was free-spirited, sincere and always true to himself and others. Cruger’s friends came from all different walks of life. He valued in others what his friends valued most in him: authenticity. He found genuine friendships everywhere and will be remembered for his incredible warmth and candor. Cruger’s wife of 56 years, Sue Starkey Ragland, died on October 25, 2009. Cruger is survived by their sons Cruger Ragland Jr (wife Mary) and Scott Ragland (wife Terry), daughter Jan Mueller (husband Mark), grandchildren Will, Matt, Alex, Bekki, Kate, and Kevin, his brother Fonse Ragland (wife Tricia), his sister Lila Brown, the customers and employees of Ragland, Strother & Lafitte, and the many friends he made at Baylor Hospital including his friend Dr. Eric Nadler. A Memorial Service will be held in Cruger’s honor at 11am at Central Christian Church, 4711 Westside Drive, Dallas, TX 75209 on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.
