With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Daniel W. Bopp of Dallas, Texas, on April 29, 2025.
A beloved husband, son, brother, brother-in-law, stepfather, cousin, and friend to many, Daniel passed away at home after a long journey with complex health challenges.
Daniel was born in Hallettsville, Texas, in 1959 to a Swiss father and a German mother. In 1962, the family returned to Switzerland with Daniel and his younger brother, Andreas. From an early age, Daniel was a voracious reader, devouring books on world religions, philosophies, and the humanities. Scouting was also an important part of his youth during those years in Switzerland.
Daniel always thought of himself as a Texan, and he returned to Dallas in the early 80s to begin a successful banking career. He later began consulting with McKinsey & Co., where his work became the perfect blend of professional expertise and a lifelong curiosity about the world. After McKinsey, Daniel launched several businesses and was a visionary entrepreneur. While deeply rooted in Texas, Daniel also enjoyed spending time with a close-knit circle of Swiss expats-many of whom were fellow business owners-sharing culture, conversation, and community.
A lifelong lover of music, Daniel enjoyed taking his mother to symphonies, attending concerts, and discovering new DJs around the world. A passionate cyclist, he rode with numerous clubs and trained across the globe—always enjoying camaraderie over a beer and pub food afterward.
Daniel met the love of his life, Irene, at a sailing club on Lake Zurich in 2017. They were married on May 21, 2021 and were inseparable companions. Daniel cherished their mornings spent over quiet conversation and coffee and often told friends how deeply he adored her. She brought him peace, joy, and unwavering care—qualities he treasured and openly celebrated. He was profoundly grateful for the love they shared and the life they built together.
Daniel also embraced Irene’s family as his own. He was a proud and devoted stepfather to her daughter, Saskia, and son, Felix, and found great joy in the time they spent together, especially during a memorable family vacation to Mallorca in the summer of 2024. He also loved meeting new people and celebrating life’s special moments around the world, including a joyful birthday trip to Jamaica in 2019, where Irene introduced him to her closest friends and to his stepson-in-law, Keon. These gatherings, filled with warmth, laughter, and the closeness of family, reflected Daniel’s generous spirit and the joy he found in being surrounded by those he loved.
An uncompromising man, he lived life on his own terms, though never selfishly. Those who knew him were fortunate to share in his rich, extraordinary experiences shaped by creativity and a unique perspective. Daniel will be remembered as a man of love and sophisticated intellect. With his perennial good nature, he touched many lives. He truly found joy in the life he lived and in the people he loved.
Predeceased by his father, Daniel Bopp, he is survived by his wife, Irene Faist; his mother, Ruth Bopp; his brother, Andreas Bopp and partner, Scarlett Gamski; stepdaughter, Saskia Scott and husband, Keon; stepson, Felix Faist; and cousin, Angelika Thorne.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life to honor Daniel will follow on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
