Daniel Michael Tully, 89, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on April 4, 2026. He was more than just a husband and father. He was a force of nature. He could command attention just by walking into a room. He was beloved by all who knew him, even if some could not tell you why. He just lived life in a way that made everyone want to be around him. He was blessed and never took that for granted.
Dan was born in The Bronx, New York City, on February 25, 1937 to John and Helen Tully. He graduated from LaSalle High School in Manhattan and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1955. Shortly after he headed south as fast as he could to Memphis, Tennessee where he would begin a career in the textile industry as a representative with F. Schumacher & Co. Later he started his own successful business as an independent textile representative and had a showroom in the Dallas World Trade Center for 40 years. He made an enduring impact and was called a legend in the business by so many. He made many lifelong friends and the fabric business was part of his identity. As a family, we often enjoyed seeing who could come up with the most creative name of a fabric color. Dan usually won.
Memphis was also where he met and married the love of his life, Kay. A New Yorker running down the street to catch up to the beautiful Mississippi girl he saw walk by. How she wasn't scared to death we do not know. But they met, fell quickly in love and married November 19, 1960. They had a wonderful life there and welcomed a son, Tony, before moving to Dallas, Texas and having two more children, Matt and Heather.
Dan was a faithful Catholic, a New York Giants fan long after leaving New York, an ardent Texas Rangers fan and an avid golfer with 2 Holes in One to his name. Family meant everything to him. He was a simultaneously fun and firm father, a wild and crazy grandfather (PaPa) and a playful great grandfather. Above all, he was a devoted husband. Dan and Kay were two peas in a pod, rarely without each other. The love they shared was forever and they had a marriage for the ages, celebrating over 65 years together.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Tully, and his 8 siblings.
Dan is survived by: his wife, Kay Tully; son, Tony Tully; son, Matt Tully and wife, Carrie; daughter, Heather Cooper and husband, Greg; Grandchildren, Francesca Finch and husband, Aaron, Gabrielle Tully, Briana Tully, Olivia Coulter and husband, Colby, Alyse Cooper, Jake Cooper; and three great grandchildren, Tully Finch, Pierce Finch and Axel Coulter.
Services are pending at this time but will be updated in the next couple of days.
