Danny Ray McDowell

Our world became a little dimmer when Danny Ray McDowell, 73, of Mesquite TX, passed away October 6, 2025. Danny was born in Bonham, TX on December 21, 1951. Danny graduated from W.W. Samuell High School in Dallas, TX. He married his wife, Debra Chipley, the day after his 22nd birthday on December 22, 1973. Danny worked as a computer programmer for Garland ISD for 30 years.

Danny was a constant Dad, always available for a warm hug and sage words of advice. That was one of his many gifts, a kind, giving man, forever ready to lend a helping hand. Danny would do anything for the people he loved. Throughout his life, he had a beautiful passion for singing and led worship through song at churches pastored by his late father-in-law, Ned Chipley. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, living by example with integrity and a huge heart for his community.

Danny is survived by his wife of 52 years, Debra; his son, John McDowell and wife Deanna and children Aaron and Sophie; his daughter, Amy Florez and husband Kirk Florez and their son Everett Florez; his sisters Dianne and Vickie, his brother Rick, and his nieces and nephews.

Danny’s memorial service will be held Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Grove Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 3920 Samuell Blvd., Dallas, TX 75228.
