Darles Helen Watson, 94, of Northlake, TX, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on April 20, 2025.
Darles was preceded in death by her parents; Sterling “Dick” Holmes, Katy Lee (Hall) Holmes, her beloved husband, A.B. Watson; daughter, Kathy Roberts; son-in-law, Jim Roberts; sister, Pat Cummins; brother, Danny Nelson; nephew, Mark Cummins, great-grandson, Caleb Larson; and son-in-law, Phil Larson. There will be quite the reunion in Heaven with so many she loved and cherished!
Darles was born on May 9, 1930, in Dallas, TX. She graduated from Denton High School and went on to be a hard worker with an amazing ethic, sometimes working more than one job at a time. She was always an independent and headstrong woman who could not be easily swayed once her mind was set on something! In her mid-50’s, she decided to go to college, going on to receive her B.A. in education degree from TWU! She used that degree to touch the lives of many children as an elementary school teacher. Her family was so proud of her for this achievement! She worked as both a schoolteacher and Sunday school teacher well into the later years of her life. Darles also loved music and helped numerous people with reading music and vocal performances.
She married Albert Benton (A.B.) Watson, Sr, on March 16, 1957, where they shared a life together as an Army Family and lived all over, including Germany and Alaska. A.B. was always her love and she never remarried after his passing. Instead, she focused on taking care of her family and pouring herself into her church community. She even had her own business for several years called “The Dip ‘N Chip”, which was a burger and ice cream shop in Krum, TX. Her sister, Pat had a Hallmark Gift Shop in the front and together, they had a blast on their business venture! She also served as a Mary Kay consultant for many years and loved helping others reach their full potential and unlock their inner beauty!
Darles loved God, people and animals and wanted to rescue anything she ever saw that needed love and nurturing. She made a great goulash, could whip up fried pork chops for a crowd in no time and made sure you had everything you always needed. She was known to her family as ‘Mom,’ ‘Gram’, ‘Great- Grandma’ and ‘Aunt Darles’, and each of us hold such special memories of growing up with her and having her cheer us on. She was always there for each of us, and we are all better for having her love, guidance and prayers. She was our rock and will be greatly missed!
Darles is survived by her cherished daughter, Sandy Larson; son, Ben Watson; adored grandchildren, David McNickle, Angela Johnson, Jared Roberts, Jennifer Allen, Phillip Larson, Priscilla Lee and Aaron Watson; beloved great-grandchildren, Colton Allen, Chad Johnson, Cooper Allen, Hannah Johnson, Alex Roberts, Collin Allen, Brandon Roberts, Olivia Larson and Charlotte Larson; treasured great-great-grandchildren, Avery Johnson, Hadleigh Johnson, and Cainan Allen.
A come-and-go visitation will be held from 10am - 2pm and family present at 12:30pm; The funeral service to immediately follow at 2pm, both on Thursday, May 1, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225. The public committal service will begin at 3:30pm on Thursday, May 1, at Restland Cemetery, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243.
