The gates of heaven opened for David Lee Chance on March 25, 2026. He will always be remembered and cherished for his endless devotion to his family, which was paralleled only by his steadfast commitment to his faith in God.
Born on February 23, 1968, in Centralia, Missouri, David was the youngest of Phil and Carol Chance’s three children. Having been a cornerstone of their Missouri community following the successes of the A.B. Chance Company, the family moved to Dallas in 1977. Here, David carried forward their entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to stewardship with his unique combination of intellect, ingenuity, wit, humor, Midwestern humility, and Southern hospitality.
David attended the Greenhill School and Richardson High School before graduating from Texas Tech University. On August 13, 1994, he married the love of his life, Christa. David and Christa dedicated their lives to each other and their two sons, Will and Weston.
David was well known and regarded in the Dallas real estate community for his diligence, honesty, and attention to detail. All who knew David quickly came to appreciate his selflessness, limitless capability to do and repair anything, his strong moral compass, and, of course, his gentle smile. Few men can juggle bowling pins, handcraft coasters from burled maple and walnut, mix world-class cocktails, ski the back bowls, and drive like a stunt man—but David could. Still, his greatest gift was the love he gave to his family and friends, who will always remember him for his unwavering support, his generosity, his easy-going nature, and the laughter he brought to their lives every single day. As a dad, a husband, a brother, a son, and as “Uncle Dave,” he never faltered in his commitment to those he loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Phil and Carol; his beloved grandparents; and his uncles, Jack Chance (Linda) and Jerry Rainey.
His memory will be cherished by his loving wife Christa; adoring sons Will and Weston; brother and sister, Larry Chance (Melissa) and Lisa Cox (Mark); many close brothers-in-law; 14 nieces and nephews; his loyal pups, Nelson and Jennings; and countless friends and colleagues.
David’s life will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 10th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in David’s honor to the St. Mark’s Fund or the American Heart Association.
