I ran across this obituary quite by accident on the internet.  I'm sorry no one informed us of David's death.  He had a long life and definitely was "one of a kind".  He and Al are together again...

You who knew David Goodman, Uncle David, like we did, join us as we celebrate his life. 
David was an intelligent, funny, entertaining, precise, and sometimes acerbic man who was fiercely independent and passionate about literature, opera, gardening, and collecting.  He was a funny and entertaining storyteller, a raconteur  movie star handsome and witty.  He took great joy in bringing old houses  his Victorian in San Francisco, and his modern ranch in Dallas  back to life.  He, like his brother Harold and his sister Florence, had an indomitable spirit that carried him through his 94 years. 
David was born in Dallas.  His father Archie came here with his four brothers from Eastern Europe in search of a life unfettered by fear and prejudice.  They created a good life here.  David thrived along with his brother and two sisters.  At age 18 he went to college in Washington, D.C.  He was the first in his family to earn a college degree.  He overcame social prejudice in his life with Al who was a straight forward man of few words who loved the work required to renovate their houses.  
He introduced our family to Uncle David's Egg  which others called egg in the nest.  He taught us the proper way to slice a ripe tomato.  He always sent a Proof Set of coins from the U.S. Mint in San Francisco to commemorate marriages and births.  He shared his Opera News with us for decades, rolled up tightly like a baton and mailed as printed matter, even though the Post Office had long since discontinued that rate.  He could not hide his joy when he learned that our son was named David.  That's MY boy, he shouted into the phone when we called him with the news. 
His piercing eyes captured you when he told a story.   
David Goodman was blessed with a long and interesting life.  He outlived almost everyone in his generation, and his spirit carried him all the days of his life.   
People who were able to get to know the man beneath the face he put on for the world, are fortunate indeed.
