Doris Fay Billops was born March 4, 1929, the oldest of eight children (four sisters and three brothers) to Annie Bell Hobbs and James C. Underwood in a small farm community in Point, Texas. The family relocated to Dallas in 1943. Doris attended public schools and graduated from Lincoln High School where she was an active member of the track team.
On January 22,1951, Doris married Lonnie "BoBo" Billops. No children were born to this union.
At an early age, Doris joined Richland Baptist Church of Point, TX. After moving to Dallas, she became a longtime member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. She served faithfully in the Women’s Ministry where she served many years as Treasurer. Doris was also an active member of the Hospitality Committee. She loved to serve, cook and clean.
Doris was a passionate sports fan and the biggest Dallas Cowboys fan of them all. She loved sharing stories of how she used to cook for the Dallas Cowboys.
She also served in her community for years with ACORN (a community organization) Ewing to Corinth Community Group. One of her accomplishments was the revitalization of the Monroe Building at Denley Dr. and Illinois. Additionally, she played a big part in adding a guard rail for the King Branch Creek streaming along Fernwood Ave.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, James and Annie Underwood; stepmother, Cornelius Underwood"; husband Lonnie C. Billops; brothers, Dewayne, Charlie and James Underwood; and sisters Bobbie Wollos, Helen Sorrells, Melba Williams and Shirley Love. She leaves to cherish her memory; stepson Lonnie Billops, Jr of Arizona; a niece and nephew that were like her own, Gwendolyn Johnson, Carlos Leggett (Annette); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
