Dorothy Butts was born Dorothy Ruth Stewart to Bill and Ruth Stewart in Waterloo Iowa April 25, 1929. Dorothy, and her younger brother Dick, were raise by their parents in Gladbrook Iowa where her father ran the local lumber business. Dorothy graduated in 1951 from the Iowa State Teachers College with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science, taught in a one room school house, and ran the local bookmobile. In 1953 she became an airline stewardess for American Airlines which she held until 1958 when she married her husband, Henry Butts Jr, in Dallas, Texas. They had 3 children, Henry, Mary Ann, and Susan. In 1972 Henry Butts Jr moved Henry Butts Oldsmobile to Dallas, from Arlington, to great success becoming one of the largest Oldsmobile dealers in the country. In 1986 Henry Butts Jr unexpectedly passed away leaving Dorothy to oversee Henry Butts Oldsmobile Inc until 1990, when the dealerships were sold. Dorothy had 2 grandchildren, Parker and Kristen Turner, by her daughter Mary Ann Turner and her husband Lyle Turner.
Dorothy had a rich and full life, raising her children, traveling with her husband, and above all being involved with her family, especially her grandchildren. Dorothy was overjoyed to be part of Parker Turners wedding to Sara Meader in December of 2022. Dorothy was always involved with her brother Dick and his family, wife Marilyn, and their 4 children, Jane, Karen, Johnny, and David. Her main hobbies were her children, her grandchildren, the family dogs, traveling with her friends, and was a very active member in the Kiwi’s, a group for retired American Airline Stewardess.
Dorothy dearly loved all her friends and the people she got to know. She was always quick with a smile and a sparkle in her eye.
Dorothy was the best wife and mother anyone could hope for. She will be greatly missed for her kindness and wit.
