Doug's early childhood was spent in the Casa View area of Dallas. Doug attended Bryan Adams High School and Eastfield College. Fran's first memories of Doug was his kindness to her and how he looked after her. He started playing soccer when he was 5 years old and around 11 became interested in BMX Bicycle racing. He raced until he was 15 on tracks in many parts of Texas and some in Louisiana and Kansas. He won many trophies and felt proud for what he accomplished.
Doug was a caring person in tune with life and his friends. He absolutely had no enemies.
He was a man that would open his door if you needed a place to stay or help some other way. He was the same man everyday - simple, understanding, and good at everything he did. He was strong minded with great drive and focus and a tremendous hard worker. Some people go through life lucky to have only one friend but Doug had many great friends. I will not mention their names as there are too many. He will be remembered most for his sense of humor - always laughing and having fun.
As Doug grew older, he loved playing video games, madden football, and darts with his friends. His friends say he has over 100 sets of darts and some nights used every pair of them. Sometimes they teased him when 2-3 didn't stick to the board and fell to the floor. They told him he needed glue on the darts or to lift weights so he could throw hard enough for the darts to stick. It was funny because he did not like to lose. He would stay for a few more games until he was winning and then leave.
Doug always had the coolest cars with the loudest sound systems. One day on lunch break while a student at Bryan Adams High School he was sitting in his car in front of the school waiting for friends and a gunman Jumped from another car into the passenger side ordering Doug to go around the car and get in the other side. Doug was smart enough to do as the gunman said he got out of the car walked around the back of the car and then started running. The car was found later that day burned on the outskirts of Dallas.
When he was grown, Doug purchased a home the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard. He loved his home and worked hard to keep the property in good shape. He and his friend Shane just repainted the house and trimmed the trees a few weeks ago.
About two years ago Doug met a nice sweet young woman "Michelle" who he loved very much. Doug and Michelle were opposites. Michelle is out going, loves to talk, and Doug was more reserved and didn't say much. But they were very compatible and had a great relationship.
Doug was not a member of any church but he was a believer in God. About five years he began reading the Bible and going to church on a regular basis. His mother attends a catholic church. One funny story, recently Doug went to church with his mother and his mother's friend Ron. Catholics kneel, stand-up, and sit down several times during services. This was a little different from what Doug was used to. During the service, everyone sat down and Doug kept standing. Fran and Ron looked up, noticed Doug was the only person standing, and he was asleep. They alerted him to sit down. Doug suffered from sleep apnea so he could fall asleep very quickly.
Doug has left us and is now with his son Josh with our lord and savior. He wins again! We all miss him but will laugh again with him someday.
