Douglas Carson Lee was born in Dallas, Texas on January 18, 1939. He and his beloved sister were born to the parentage of Theodore Lee and Lucy Lola (Carson) Lee. At an early age, he accepted Christ at Munger Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Brooks E. Joshua. Although he was city-born, he was a country boy at heart. As he loved to visit Howland, TX with his grandparents Robert (Papa) and Jocie Carson. Upon graduating with honors from the historical Booker T. Washington High School, Douglas enlisted in the Marines in 1957. Two years later he married Gloria J. Montgomery and enlisted in the United States Army. They bore three children. Throughout his military career he traveled the world and afforded his family the opportunity to encounter different cultures and experiences. He retired after twenty-one years of distinguished service with the rank of Sergeant First Class. Soon after retiring he worked for Dallas Transit Service (DTS), eventually becoming DART, and years later began working for the U.S. Postal Service. He eventually retired from the post office after working almost thirty years as a Facilities and Maintenance Manager.
Later in life, he met and married Lorraine Marie Lee, with whom he enjoyed forty-two years of marriage. This union resulted in the blending of their children and was a source of pride for both he and Lorraine. He was a dutiful father and provided support and guidance for all his children; a dutiful son and husband. He was known to all his friends as “D.C.” and will be remembered as a hard worker, a steadfast friend, a music aficionado, and a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan.
On the morning of December 26. 2024, he transitioned peacefully after spending the Christmas holiday surrounded by family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Theodore Lee; his mother, Lucy Lola Lee; sister, Theola Benson; brother-in-law, Robert Benson; beloved cousin, Robert (Bob) Cooper and his much adored wife, Lorraine.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Pamela R. Lee, Keith A. Lee, Sonya Lee-Morrison (Rodney), and Mia Haley (Carl); grandchildren, Ketra Lee, Keith Andre Lee II, Jordan Haley; great-grandchildren, Ka’Shia Lee-Terrell, Kyla Lee-Terrell, Jayson Lee, Kaylee Lee; great-great-grandchild, Semaj’ Jones. He also leaves to mourn, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. His cherished first cousins, Doris Faye Carter, Birdie Jo Wade and Nina Jewell Bass, he considered his sisters and always spoke of them with loving fondness.
