

Dulcine Joe was born on August 5, 1954, to the parentage of Jeff Fulton and Mattie Mae Joe in Athens, Texas. She was the eleventh of twelve children born to her mother and was raised alongside her siblings and many lifelong friends.
Dulcine accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church (Athens, TX), where her faith took root and remained an important part of her life. As a teenager, she developed a strong work ethic, beginning her employment at the Athens Senior High School Library and the Henderson County Courthouse. She graduated from Athens High School as a member of the Class of 1972.
Shortly after graduation, Dulcine relocated to Dallas, Texas, where she married Charles Woods. From this union, two children were born. She later met and shared 17 loving years with her life partner, Joseph Shofner.
Dulcine was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Company for several years before continuing her career with what is now known as Bank of America. She dedicated more than 45 years of faithful service to the bank, where she remained employed until her passing.
Dulcine found joy in being a mother, spending time with her family, visiting the casino, and traveling with her friends affectionately known as “The Golden Girls.”
On Sunday, December 14, Dulcine gained her wings and departed this life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Ernestine Stephens, Willie Stephens, John Joe, Bobby Joe, Charles Johnson (Patricia), and Sammie Joe (Tanya); and her sisters, Maxine Joe (Linda) and Lola Tisby.
She is survived by her brothers, Robert Johnson (Latrenda), Billy Jack Johnson, and Jesse Joe Johnson; and her sister, Laura Hurd (Lonnie). She leaves to cherish her memories her life partner, Joseph Shofner; her children, Christian Woods, Kimberle Woods Long (Jeremy), and Shara Elam (Kenneth); bonus daughter, Sheri Shofner; her grandchildren, Bailey Long, Aspen Houston, and Sierra Houston; five great grandchildren; a special niece, Patanya Johnson; a special nephew, Jonathan Joe; her lifelong best friend, Belinda Langley; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held at High Pointe Baptist Church, located at 101 High Pointe Ln, Cedar Hill, TX 75104, on December 19, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A celebration service will take place at Mt Calvary Baptist Church, 837 N Prairieville St, Athens, TX 75751, on December 20, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
Burial will follow at Athens Cemetery Association, S Prairieville St, Athens, TX 75751, on December 20, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm.
