Ekkehard Werner Reimold was born on February 22, 1930, in Beuthen, Germany, and passed away peacefully at his home of 50 years in Dallas, Texas, on January 5, 2020. He was the son of Werner Reimold and Barbara Kramer Reimold. He is survived by his son Andreas Reimold (Sharon Coplen Reimold) of Dallas, Texas, his daughter Cornelia Reimold Groat (Jack) of Alexandria Virginia, four grandchildren: Monica Groat (Seth Reed) of Washington, DC, Stephen Groat (Jessica Howe Groat) of San Diego, California, Nicholas Reimold of Arlington, Virginia, and Kimberly Reimold of Worcester, Massachusetts, and one great granddaughter, Renate Groat of San Diego, California. He is predeceased by his wife Renate Reblin Reimold. Medicine was Ekkehard Reimold’s passion in life, both in research and clinical practice, as a pediatric nephrologist. His long career as a physician included academic appointments at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, and Northeastern Ohio Universities in Canton, Ohio. He was a pioneer in kidney dialysis for children while at UT Southwestern. He retired from medical practice when he and his wife closed their joint private practice in Richardson Texas. In retirement, Ekkehard enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. As a younger man, he sang classical music as a member of choirs and conducted the student orchestra. In his later years, he learned to play Bach on the piano and enjoyed attending concerts and operas. He was a renaissance man who could fix almost anything and he stayed fit through regular workouts at the YMCA until a few months before his death. His family will miss their Opa. Services will be held in the chapel at Sparkman Hillcrest on January 11, 2020, at noon, followed by internment in the Garden of Roses.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation in Ekkehard’s memory to the North Texas Food Bank
