Elia Orta Marez, aged 93, passed away on February 2, 2026 in Dallas, Texas. She was born on July 12, 1932 in Cameron, Texas to Pedro and Francisca Orta, Elia was raised in Texas.
She married Johnny Marez in February of 1953 and the couple had 4 children. She was a seamstress with her own shop in Dallas, Texas where she worked for more than 50 years. In her spare time, Elia enjoyed walking and telling stories of her life, traveling, gambling and going to church, senior citizen center and visiting with all her friends also family gatherings were important to her. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren were very important to her. Her family and friends will always remember her as a hard worker with a creative personality; a woman of her word; a caregiver to many people.
She is greatly loved by her family: Pedro and Francisca Orta (parents); Husband, Johnny Marez (deceased); children, Anita Thompson (deceased), Rick Marez, Teresa Marez, Ron Marez; sisters, Caroline Orta Franco, Tommie Orta Hernandez; brother, Gilbert Orta (deceased); sisters, Susie Orta Mendez, Isabel Orta Salinas, Sofia Orta Villa, and Linda Orta Soto.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, with the Holy Rosary being recited at 6:00pm at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas 75220
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 9:00am at the Mausoleum Chapel of Calvary Hill Cemetery, followed by her entombment and a reception in the main building of Calvary Hill Funeral Home.
