

On January 29, 2026, Elton Ray Haggard of Irving, Texas passed away. Elton was born on December 17, 1931 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Dennis and Ruth Taliaferro Haggard. Elton grew up with his older brother Arvel on a cotton and cattle farm in Canute, Oklahoma. On December 16, 1950, he married the love of his life, Josephine E. Gray, whom he met while attending First Baptist Church of Burns Flat. Together they raised two sons, Jimmy and Kent, as they moved between Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska while Elton worked for Dial Finance as a branch manager and regional supervisor. In 1970, the family relocated from Omaha, Nebraska to Irving, Texas. Elton thereafter retired and began a rental property business in the area.
Elton was a loving husband, brother, father, and Papaw. He was a devout Christian and longtime member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, Texas, as well as a baseball, basketball, and boxing fan.
Elton was preceded in death by his wife Josey, son Jim, and brother Arvel. He is survived by his son Kent Haggard (Laurie) of Carrollton, TX; daughter-in-law Ginger Haggard Patterson of Richmond, TX; his grandchildren Nicole LeBoeuf (Toby) of Magnolia, TX, Jared Haggard (Katie) of Hickory Creek, TX, Erica Crosland (Stewart) of Bethesda, MD, and Kyle Haggard of Carrollton, TX; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on February 20 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship, 4141 International Parkway, Carrollton, TX 75007.
