Ernestine “Tina” Young, 77, of Dallas, Texas, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021. Tina was born to her parents, Amanda and Clemente DeLeon, Sr., in Dallas, Texas on May 26, 1943. Tina graduated in 1961 from Our Lady of Good Counsel Academy in Oak Cliff. She was married to James “Jim” Young, Sr., for over 50 years, who preceded her in death in 2017. They were married at Holy Cross Catholic Church and were members of St. Pius X in Dallas, Texas.
Tina worked in a variety of office and sports related jobs. Through the years, she enjoyed countless and enduring friendships she cherished all her life. She had a passion for many hobbies. Tina was involved in macrame, ceramics, artwork, chili cookoffs, garden club and horticulture, to name a few. She and Jim also shared a love for travel, having seen so many parts of the world. Her adventures could fill a book as she and Jim enjoyed the treasures each adventure offered. In her retirement, she adored her time as a volunteer at the Dallas Arboretum. There was nothing she would not do for her beloved Arboretum, which sits on the shore of White Rock Lake.
Tina is also preceded in death by her mother and father, her older brother Clemente DeLeon, Jr. her younger brother, Eugene and a grand-daughter, Isabel. Tina is survived by her four sons: James Young, Jr., of Allen, Texas; Damian Young of Dallas, Texas; Roger Young and wife, Tracy, of Corinth, Texas; and Phillip Young and wife, Andrea, of Garland, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters, Gloria Garza (h. Manuel), Paula Diaz (h. Martin), Pam Cervantes (h. Michael) and Teresa Alfaro (h. Adam). As well, she is survived by her brothers Rudolph DeLeon (w. Fran), A.C. DeLeon (w. Jeanie) and John DeLeon (w. Elva). Incredibly special to her were her grandchildren Megan, Preston, Lauren, Casey, Jarrad, Joshua and Collin, as well as her 6 great-grandchildren. She also leaves many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Family was the energy she used to power her life. She will forever live in our hearts and in the legacy, she leaves behind.
Her final arrangements include a visitation on Thursday, February 18, 2021 from 6:00-7:30 pm, followed by a rosary, at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home, 10501 Garland Road, Dallas, Texas 75218. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3030 Gus Thomasson Road, Dallas, Texas 75228.
