Eva “Potgie” was born on February 23, 1946 in Dallas, Texas. She passed away on February 13, 2024. She was 77 years old. She was the daughter of Ernest and Agnes Lanicek. She had two brothers, Ernest, Jr. “Sonny” Lanicek and Nobert “Norby” Lanicek. She was married to Roy Ray Thompson on June 26, 1965. They had three children, Michael “Shane” Thompson, Christopher “Chris” Ray Thompson, and Monica Bett Thompson. She is survived by her son Michael “Shane” Thompson, Sr. and his wife Samantha Holland-Thompson, their four children, her beloved grandchildren, Michael “Mickey” Shane Thompson, Jr., Molly Agnes Thompson, Lillian “Lilly” Frances Thompson, and Keely Julia Thompson, and her daughter Monica Thompson. She is also survived by her two nephews Richard “Ricky” Lanicek and his wife Julie, and Deacon Daniel “Danny” Lanicek and his wife Kim. She is preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Agnes Lanicek, husband and son Roy and Chris Thompson, and her brother and sister-in-law, Ernest, Jr. “Sonny” and Patricia “Pat” Lanicek, and brother, Norbert “Norby” Lanicek. She missed them all very much every day. It gives us great comfort to know she is with them in Heaven now.
Eva was a caring wife and loving mother. She originally worked as an executive secretary for Ross Perot, but she spent most of her life as devoted wife and homemaker to her beloved children and grandchildren. She was one-of-a-kind. Anyone who knew her knew she was fiercely loyal to her family and friends and that she would do anything for them. She grew up in North Dallas in the St. Monica neighborhood. She attended St. Monica Catholic School beginning the year it opened in 1955. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School. She enjoyed roller skating at Starlight Skating Rink, winning many trophies in her day. She also enjoyed researching her Czech ancestry and heritage. She loved animals, especially cats and dogs. She had a strong Catholic faith. Eva will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
