Ezzie Lena Holt

Ezzie Lena Holt, a cherished family matriarch known for her sweet spirit and gentle soul, was born on October 3, 1933, to Bennie and Bertha Rayson in Carthage, Texas. She received her early education through the East Texas Public School System and later continued her academic pursuits at Prairie View A&M University, where she further strengthened the foundation for her lifelong journey of service, care, and devotion.

On November 5, 1955, Ezzie was united in marriage to Paul Holt, Jr. in Dallas, Texas. Their beautiful and enduring union was blessed with six children: Deborah, Yolanda Jean, Stephanie, Rona, Annette, and Aaron.

A woman of profound faith, Ezzie began her spiritual journey at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Hollands Quarters at an early age. She later united with The Exciting Singing Hills Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Howard E. Anderson, Sr. - Pastor, where she served as a devoted and faithful member. Ezzie’s life was a testament to kindness, service, and steadfast dedication—qualities that shone brightly in her love for her family, her church, and her community.

Gifted with skillful hands and a caring heart, Ezzie worked as a talented seamstress and a compassionate caregiver—roles through which she generously shared her love, patience, and family with all who knew her.

Ezzie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Holt, Jr.; her dear sisters, Sarah Brown and Lovie Doris Baird; and her treasured daughters, Deborah Ann Holt Jackson and Rona Shanta Holt - who now rest with her in eternal peace.

She will forever be remembered for the deep love she poured into her family—her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and all who were blessed to call her friend. On March 23, 2026, she peacefully went home to be with the Lord.

Ezzie leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Yolanda Jean Brewer (Victor Brewer), Stephanie Holt Shaw, Annette Holt Thomas, and Aaron Holt. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Adriane Alexander, Derick Holt, Sr., Rona Holt, Michael Harris, Sr., Ashley Thomas, Christopher Brewer, Sr. (A’Doriyel Brewer), Veronica Scott Shaw, and Venson Shaw.

Her legacy continues through her great grandchildren: Anthony Alexander, Tyra Alexander, Derick Holt, Jr., Donovan Holt, Caidyn Hewitt Holt, Yasmin Gipson, Elexa Gipson, Michael Harris, Jr., Sidney Harris, MaKayla Ivery, Christopher Brewer, Jr., Jeaniyah Brewer, A’Lyric Brewer, A’Laiyh Brewer, and Aspen (Pooh) Shaw, great great grandchild: Arianna Holt

She also leaves to cherish her memory, a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and children she lovingly helped raise.
