Mrs. Florence Trigg Calvin, oldest daughter and second born of the late Johnnie Henry Trigg and Mary Payne Trigg, was born July 20, 1924 in Bastrop, Texas. She attended the public schools of Bastrop County, Texas. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and later joined Greater Corinth Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas where she was a dedicated member of the choir and a Sunday School teacher. She moved her membership to Tried Stone Baptist Church and served faithfully as a member of the choir and a Youth Sunday School teacher.
She was united in holy matrimony to Dee Calvin (née Caviel) in 1945 shortly after her move from Bastrop to San Antonio, Texas. This union was blessed with six children: Barbara, Estella, Mary, Abbie, Betty, and Patrick. Mr. Dee Calvin preceded her in death on January 16, 1979.
Mrs. Calvin’s virtuous Christian life and pleasant Godly spirit caused her to be loved and respected by many. One of her most joyful Christian moments told to her grandchildren was of her being baptized in the Colorado River. Called “Nanny” by her grandchildren, her Christian life was as beautiful as the children and grandchildren she felt so blessed to have. The blessing of her children and grandchildren was often reflected in her quote, “I’m Rich with no Money.” Her influence and love will forever remain in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all who knew her. She peacefully departed this life Saturday, June 12, 2021 at home surrounded by her son and daughter-in-law in Cedar Hill, Texas. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Barbara Ann Calvin Williams, Mary Alice Calvin, and Betty Sue Wright.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Estella Salahuddin of San Antonio, Texas; Abbie (Roosevelt) Echols of Dallas, Texas; and Patrick (Marti) Calvin of Cedar Hill, Texas; eighteen grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren; brother, Earl (Patricia) Trigg of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Estella Davis of Dallas, and Mary Haywood of Houston; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
