Floyd William Whartenby

Floyd W. (Bud) Whartenby, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023. Bud was born on November 5, 1932, in Waterloo, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd E. and Gladys Whartenby and his loving wife, Janice Whartenby. He is survived by his daughter, Sherri Sims.

Bud graduated from Waterloo High School in upstate New York. In 1951, he entered the United States Air Force and served his country until 1959, leaving the military at the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his military career he attended Ohio State University part-time.

He started his career working for more than a decade at Railway Express Company. Bud later transitioned into heating, air conditioning and refrigeration. After 13 years as the service manager at Citywide Mechanical, he retired in 2001.

Bud married Janice Tompkins Barnett and gained a daughter, Sherri. They were married for 48 years.

He was quite a skilled bowler with several 300-point, perfect score games. Bud and his wife’s favorite pastimes were riding and spending time working around the barn with their horses, dogs and cats.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to a no-kill shelter (Operation Kindness of North Texas) or an animal rescue of your choice would be appreciated.

A visitation for Floyd will be held Friday, March 17, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228, followed by a graveside service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
