George Junior Hill was born on Dec 12, 1919 in Yonkers, New York to the late George C. Hill and Virginia Ockershausen Hill. He graduated from Yonkers High School and from Cooper Union College in New York. His first love was the theater and he spent summers in Kennebunkport doing stage set designs prior to joining the US Army. He served during WWII as a war correspondent stationed in Paris and London. He married Helen Dorothy Dowd on November 20, 1943. Once the war ended, he returned to the states with an interest in a new invention called “Television”. George enjoyed a long career in the television industry which took him all over the country. He began as a director in Washington DC in the very early years, followed by setting up stations across the country and ending up in TV-Radio advertising. He lived in Cleveland, Ohio for 14 years and was an active member of the Hermit Club, where he was able to do theatrical set designs. He also produced and directed various performances. In 1964, he and 2 colleagues wrote and produced an original play (The Imposter) which included all original musical numbers. When he retired from the advertising business in 1972 to move to Clearwater, Florida, he was awarded with an honorary membership to the Hermit Club (only the 2nd honorary member in the Club’s history since its opening in 1905). In Florida, he spent time with small theater groups and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department doing set design. In 1992, he and Helen moved to Dallas, Texas to be near their children and grandchildren, all of whom resided in the Dallas area. During his time in Dallas he was active with theater groups at the Garland Civic Center and Bishop Lynch High School.
