

Born on March 4, 1950, George proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His commitment to his country was matched only by his dedication to his family and community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laurel Shields; daughter, Cheryl “Nickle” Shields; son, George Shields and his wife, Cassie; and stepsons, Travis Beeman and Jason Beeman. He was a proud and devoted Papaw to his grandchildren: Jacob Wherry, Ainsley Wherry, Wesley Shields, and Hunter Shields. George is also survived by his brothers, James “Buddy” Gibbons and Kenneth Shields and his wife, Sandy; his sisters-in-law, Vanessa Alvarez and Cheryl Roberson; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Larita Shields; his mother, Della Hash; his father, Buel Shields; his stepmother, Alberta Shields; and his sister, Carolyn McClane.
George had a lifelong passion for race cars and spent many joyful hours at the track or talking about engines. He also had a deep love for music, which filled his home and heart throughout his life. George was involved in youth sports, coaching and mentoring young athletes in his community for many years.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 9th at 10:00am at Grove Hill Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
Celebration of Life to follow at 12:30pm at the Shields’ home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in George’s memory to the Dementia Society of America.
George will be remembered for his loyalty, generosity, passion for life, and unwavering love for his family. He will be truly missed.
