

Geraldine (Jeri) Geneva Southerland Cangelose, 88, of Desoto, TX passed to heaven on April 1, 2025 in Mineola, TX. She will always be remembered as a loving mother of Mary & Todd, a devoted grandmother of four and a cherished friend to many. Geraldine (Jeri) was born on November 2, 1936 in Dallas County, to Sam & Vogel Southerland.
Geraldine was a resilient and strong woman, known for her fierce independence, boundless love and generosity. She had a passion for gardening, where she found joy in nurturing beautiful flowers & taking care of family. Her artistic talents shone through in her canvas paintings, especially those depicting Comanche Indians, capturing the essence of her creative spirit. She was also a successful entrepreneur, founding a beloved bakery business within her husband’s grocery store, King Saver, bringing joy & delicious treats to her community.
Traveling was one of Geraldine’s greatest pleasures. She loved exploring the world. Cruising the sea on luxurious ships watching the sun rise and set were her favorite times. Her adventures extended to cherished family trips with kids & grands, creating lasting memories in places like Italy, South America, South Seas, Caribbean, NASA, Galveston & Sea World in Florida.
Geraldine also shared her love of hospitality and warmth through her bed & breakfast with a weekend restaurant, The Magnolia House, in Corsicana, TX.
Geraldine (Meme) took great pride in her family, especially her four grands, Jeremy, Jonathan, Todd Jr., and Kelsie. Her grandson, who became a successful attorney, her grandson who built and leads a thriving business, her grandson a proud Navy Sea Bee, and her granddaughter, who works passionately in a hospital, all carry forward the values and love she instilled in them.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers & sisters and former husband, Ross Cangelose.
Geraldine is survived by a daughter Mary and her husband Rickey Loomis, a son, Todd Cangelose, four grandchildren, Jeremy Pruett and wife Kendal, Jonathan Pruett and wife Marcy, Todd D.J. Cangelose and wife Deirdre and Kelsie Cangelose; eight great grandchildren, Caroline, Ella, Hannah, Sloane, Greyson Pruett, Cullen, Bohdan and Rorik Cangelose.
Funeral Services are graveside, 11:00AM Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home.
