Gilda Rita Moses Spector was born to Shirley and Charles Moses on August 22, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York. She passed away in the presence of loved ones on August 13, 2021. Gilda had a happy childhood and became a bookkeeper after high school. She met the love of her life, Sam Spector, when she was only 12 years old and they were married on January 7, 1950. The couple traveled and enjoyed parenting their three young sons.
In 1962, the family moved to Dallas, Texas, where they raised their children. Her role as the fashion-forward matriarch didn’t end at the Neiman Marcus register — Her love of fashion and design inspired her to pursue a career as an interior designer after attending design school at El Centro College.
Gilda also dedicated her time volunteering at Children’s Medical Center and for the Children’s Cancer Fund. She always enjoyed helping the children pick out their special outfit for the annual Gala. Gilda was an avid reader and she enjoyed needlepoint, traveling and playing mahjong, golf, and tennis. Gilda shared her passion for travel by generously opening her South Padre beach house to friends and family. Gilda had a wonderful group of girlfriends she played cards with weekly. She enjoyed her new friends at the Preston of the Park Cities, and she has always treasured her many wonderful lifelong friends. Most of all, she loved her family.
Gilda was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Sam; her brother, Murray; her son Cary; and her grandson, Adam.
Gilda was a devoted mother to Cary and wife Julia, Mitchell and wife Nancy, and Michael and wife Cindi. Gilda loved her grandchildren dearly: Sarah, Jason and wife Ashley, Josh and wife Blair, Adam, Jeremy and wife Baliea, Ian and wife Rachel, Jessica and husband Daniel, Laura, and David. She was a very proud great-grandmother to Aurora, Fiona, Sam, Asher, Abby, and Sutter, and she adored her nieces Gwen Spector and Hillari Shearin. Gilda will be missed by all.
Funeral Services will be held graveside on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at 10:00 am at Shearith Israel Memorial Park, 4634 Dolphin Road, Dallas, TX, 75223. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Cancer Fund or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
