Glenn Lee Duphorne, a diminutive and gentle man with the patience of Job and heart of a lion, was reunited with his Heavenly Father and beloved wife, Martha, on February 8, 2025, exactly two years after her passing.
Known to his children and grandchildren as Pops, Glenn entered this world accompanied by his twin brother Don in Athens, Texas to parents Dorothy and Dewey Duphorne and their first-son, Frank. His small town, storybook childhood consisted of running with the fun crowd, excelling at golf, circling the Dairy Queen and eventually marrying his high school sweetheart, Martha Sue Seat, at age 20.
The young couple began their life together in Dallas, where Glenn completed his college education at Southern Methodist University, as Martha graduated from Highland Park High School. Soon after, they ventured to New York City for Glenn’s training with Merril Lynch where they got their first glimpse of big city life. Glenn returned to Dallas and, with great devotion, built a successful career as a stock broker, raised his family, and created a fun-filled life with friends, family and a wonderful faith community.
Glenn was drawn to people, and people were certainly drawn to him. He was an active and loved member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Salesmanship Club, Brook Hollow Country Club and Dallas Country Club. He and Martha also relished in the trips that Glenn earned as a top producer at Paine Webber and UBS, as well as the lifelong friends they made through their travels.
Glenn found joy and purpose in being a coach of his kids’ sports teams, and playing golf and cards with his friends. His consistency and deadly short game earned him the nickname “Little Poison” on the links, and his reputation on the card table was known throughout the 19th hole. He wore his kind and humble demeanor as a cloak and quietly loved to win.
Glenn and Martha were also blessed by the special friendships that blossomed from their Adult Sunday School at Lovers Lane Methodist Church, First Methodist Carrollton, Whole in One, John McStay’s Bible Study led by Charlie Dunn, and Highland Park Presbyterian Church. After one men’s retreat, Glenn returned home to excitedly inform Martha that he “loved someone more than her”, his Lord and Savior. Glenn’s life was changed forever.
Glenn’s life was transformed further in 2007, when he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, and again in 2011, when he received a kidney transplant from his daughter, Lori. Despite the physical toll that these life experiences took on his body, they fortified his faith and heightened his desire to share love and encouragement with other men. The family has been especially blessed in recent days by these men and their stories of Glenn and his influence in their lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Alfred “Dewey” Duphorne, his twin brother Don Lynn Duphorne, and his wife of 49 years, Martha Sue Duphorne. He is survived by his brother Frank Duphorne, his children Brad and Courtney Duphorne, Lori and Bond Payne, and Lance and Deanna Duphorne; and his 7 granddaughters and their spouses: Mollie Duphorne, Ellen and Jake Peden, Anna Payne, Mae and Amy Fox, Monica Duphorne, Lacy Duphorne, and Alexandria Bratcher; and lifelong special friends Jimmy and Penny Gressett.
Thank you to Robyn Smelter, Jamie Turpin, Summer Wilbanks, and Sandee Boyd who provided tender, loving care of Mana and Pops over the past 5 years.
Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, February 18, 3:00p.m. at Highland Park Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Salesmanship Club Foundation, 106 E. 10th Street, Suite 200, Dallas, TX, 75203.
