

Halsell Sam Davis Jr, of Dallas, Texas, departed this life on February 26, 2013 at the age of 83. Sam was born in McKinney, Texas on March 15, 1929 to Halsell Sam Davis, Sr. and Ara Simpson Davis. Sam received his bachelor’s and law degree from Baylor University. Sam attended Baylor undergraduate on a music scholarship and played clarinet in the Waco Symphony Orchestra. Sam served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a JAG officer and Ensign aboard the U.S.S. St. Paul. After service in the Navy, Sam joined the law firm of Burford & Ryburn in Dallas. Sam remained with Burford & Ryburn for the entirety of his law career, providing legal advice to large companies such as Texas Power & Light, hospitals, charitable organizations and individuals. Sam joined Park Cities Baptist Church when his family moved to Dallas and remained an active member of PCBC, serving as a deacon and other advisory capacities. Sam’s pride and pleasure was his immediate and extended family, most of whom live in the Dallas area. Sam is preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Laura Ann Parks Davis and his eldest son Hal Davis. Survivors include his wife MaryAnn Keith Davis, sons and daughters-in-law Bruce and Wendy Davis, Tom and Liz Davis, Joe and Annette Davis, and Ann Singleton Davis, brothers Dick Davis and Jack Davis, as well several grandchildren, nephews, nieces. Memorial service will be held at Park Cities Baptist Church in Ellis Chapel, 3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas, Texas on March 1st at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Sam's memory to Buckner International 5200 Buckner Blvd Dallas TX 75227.
