

Helen Marie Powers Tuttle passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 10, 2025. She was born on February 2, 1933, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Ernest and Audra (Gupton) Powers. The family later moved to Arcadia Park, Texas, when Ernest accepted a position with the Yellow Freight trucking company.
Marie graduated from Sunset High School in Oak Cliff, Texas, and soon after began working as a secretary in the movie industry. She eventually rose to the position of manager at the Heywood Simmons motion picture company, where she was responsible for procuring movie theaters in the Southwest to showcase Hollywood films. She later worked at Market Hall and eventually served as secretary for Cockrell Hill First United Methodist Church until her retirement.
A devoted member of the Methodist faith, Marie was baptized at Carter Avenue First United Methodist Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma, on April 3, 1933. Throughout her life, she remained active in various congregations, including Irwindell FUMC—where she taught Sunday school—Cockrell Hill FUMC, and Duncanville FUMC, where she participated in Amazing Grays, PIP Days, and Open Table.
On April 17, 1999, she married Lloyd P. Tuttle. They shared a loving and joyful life together until his passing in March 2015.
Marie had many interests, with needlepoint being her favorite. She won numerous ribbons at the State Fair of Texas for her work. She also enjoyed playing bridge, baking, gardening, watching Jeopardy!, and solving Sudoku and crossword puzzles. On February 2, 1963, she was recognized as a “Big D Beauty Shopping” personality. She was also known for her generosity and passion for helping others during her life.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Marie’s devoted caregivers during her final years: Aysa, Geraldine, Chianti, Alma, Maria, and Rose, as well as the Texas Life Hospice caregivers. Special appreciation goes to Jill Powers for her steadfast support in managing Marie’s financial and household needs during the last years of her life.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd, and her brother Billy Ray (Lil) Powers. She is survived by her nephews and niece: Stephen (Joy) Powers, Stewart (Jill) Powers, and Gail (Terry) Crain; as well as great-nephews Bradley (Kristin) and children, Scott (Ashley), Trent (Hope), Geoffrey, Seth, and Parker, and great-niece Whitney (Todd). She is also survived by Lloyd's family: daughters Sue (Jack) Thompson and Glenna (Allison) Snyder; and grandchildren Linde Thompson, Trent (Amanda) Thompson and children, Ryan (Olivia) Snyder and children, and Jordan Snyder.
