He was born on October 27, 1944, in Point, Texas.
Leon moved to Dallas when he was 4 years old. He graduated from W.W. Samuell High School in Dallas in 1963. After graduating high school, Leon enrolled in a 2-year Junior College in East Texas. Choosing not to go to a 4-year college, he was soon drafted by the U.S. Army where he trained at Fort Polk, LA, and Fort Sill, OK. From there, he received orders to go to Germany where he spent approximately 16 months as a Headquarter Clerk before being promoted to specialist E5. After being discharged from the Army, Leon returned to Dallas where he got a job with IBM. After 30 years of service with IBM, he retired and moved to Lone Star, Texas, on Lake Lone Star, where he lived for 25 years before returning back to Dallas.
Leon enjoyed many hobbies over his lifetime, such as playing the piano, wood working, fishing, sailing, boating, riding his dune buggy, hunting, playing dominos and poker, and many beach vacations with his high school friend group.
Leon was predeceased by his parents, Horace and Leona, and wife. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Kaye Irwin; daughter Ami Irwin-Coffman; his son-in-law, Michael Coffman; three step-grandchildren; and his son, Aaron Irwin.
