

Sonny Kemble grew up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas. He played football, baseball and ran track for Sunset High School and graduated in 1942. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in December of that year and became a tail gunner on a B-17 flying 28 missions in Europe until September 1945. Once returning home, he enrolled at the University of North Texas and earned his Bachelor's of Science degree in Physical Education with a minor in History. Sonny returned to UNT to play football and earned his Master's degree in 1953 in Health and Physical Education. For 21 years Sonny taught, coached and was an administrator in the Dallas ISD at Sunset, Rusk, Kimball Jr. High, T.W. Browne and Greiner. In 1992 Sonny became an important part of the Duncanville ISD Athletic Department as stadium manager making sure staff were assigned and supported at all middle and high school athletic events. Working with the Duncanville ISD allowed Sonny to continue to be involved in the lives of young people. He retired from Duncanville ISD in 2016 after 24 years of service at the age of 92.
Sonny is survived by his three daughters, Kay Lynn (Ron) Freeman, Kathy (Rob) Dew, Karol (David) Koegl; five grandchildren, Kevin (Laura) Freeman, Kyle (Heather) Freeman, Kristi (Ethan) Tucker, Robyn (Howard) Olive, Jennifer (Jeff) Allen, Ashley (Alex) Humphrey, Mychael (Maria ) Koegl; thirtheen great grandchildren; brother, Don (Melba) Kemble; numerous neices and nephews as well as great neices and nephews. Sonny was preceeded in death by his beloved wife, Martha Mann Kemble, grandson, Erik White, brother, Frank Kemble, Jr., sister, Dorothy Huncovic, parents Elva and Frank G. Kemble, Sr.
Sonny Kemble was a man who dedicated his life to his family and serving his country and community.
He invested his time, energy and his love in the lives of young people. He was a man you could trust given his intergrity, honor and humility.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to be made to the Preteen & Youth Camp Funds at Hampton Road Baptist Church in his honor.
