The scripture reads, “His Lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” Matthew 25:23 KJV
A true servant of God, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Isaac George Cary Sr. was born in Dallas, Texas, May 24, 1930, and transitioned to eternal rest on Monday, July 17, 2023 at the glorious age of 93. He was the only child born to George C. Cary and Doshie Anderson Cary; however, he had several older half-sisters and brothers who he loved dearly and who all preceded him in death.
Isaac attended Lincoln Manor School which is now H. S. Thompson Learning Center and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947. Isaac’s parents died when he was a young child; then he was raised by his devoted older sister, Lottie Black, who we affectionately called “Big Auntie.”
After graduation, he served in the Army from 1951-54 during the Korean Conflict. While in the army, he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After being honorably discharged from the army, he attended Bishop College Center for two years and received a certificate in business administration from the Southwest School of Business.
In 1956, he began his long career with the United States Postal Service, retiring after 35 years of service. Isaac was employed as a Mail Handler, then worked his way up to a Mail Handler’s Supervisor, and finally ended his career as a Quality Control Specialist. While at the post office, Isaac held the position of Secretary/Treasurer for the Mail Handler’s Union for many years and was right there in the struggle to obtain equal rights for all. So, he would encourage you to keep working and doing your best.
In August of 1955, Isaac married the love of his life, Marjorie Roach, which has produced 3 generations in their union of 67 years. A union definitely “made in heaven.” Isaac enjoyed family time due to the numerous pictures that were taken during family reunions, weddings, graduations, and birthday parties. He loved taking pictures and could be classified as a semi-professional photographer. Capturing the perfect moment was so important to him, which is the reason there are millions of pictures left to record his story and many important events. Isaac enjoyed bowling and participated in several leagues which resulted in winning numerous trophies. Isaac enjoyed traveling, attending conventions, and watching sports and the old “Westerns.” There were so many areas that Isaac was involved in, however, we must share how important voting was to him. He was classified as a “super voter” and voted in every election. In fact, even as his health declined, he still voted in the May election. So, he would encourage you to love each other and remember to vote.
Since the age of five, Isaac has been an active member of New Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and has served faithfully in many capacities including: Chairman of the Deacon Board, trustee, treasurer, and choir member. Isaac loved to attend Sunday School, worship services and Bible Study and was a “true tither.” Isaac loved his church family and they loved him dearly. So, he would encourage you to find a church home, study God’s word and pray.
In addition to church, he has also been active in many community, masonic and civic organizations such as: a member of the Washington/Lincoln Alumni Association, a life member of the NAACP, the Lincoln Manor Group, the Acorn Neighborhood Association; as well as, a Golden Century member and Board member of the Park South YMCA and a Golden Century member of the Moorland Branch YMCA. Isaac is a member of the American Legion Post No. 802, Past Commander of Assured Life Association (Banner Camp #90) and was treasurer of the North Central Prince Hall Masonic Federal Credit Union for many years, which merged with Cornerstone Credit Union, where he served as a board member.
Isaac was a dedicated member and Past Worshipful Master of Cherubim Lodge #237, Past Most Wise and Perfect Master of Dale Consistory #31 and a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason of the United Supreme Council (Tennessee), Past Potentate of Zakat Temple #164 of the Mystic Shrine, Honorary Past Imperial Potentate of the Desert of Texas, Past Noble Advisor of Zakat Court #133, and served as treasurer for 17 years for the Desert of Texas. Isaac had a special love for the Grand High Court Heroines of Jericho Texas Jurisdiction of which he would proudly say, “I was a Palace child.” He continued to faithfully serve through the years in his local Court, American Beauty Court #102 and was the Past Worshipful Joshua. Because of his dedicated service to the Grand High Court, he held the esteemed position of being the Past Worthy Grand Joshua of the Heroines of Jericho of Texas and its Jurisdictions. The list goes on and on. In addition to his participation in the organizations, he gave regularly to several charitable organizations. Isaac loved to give and to serve in the community, therefore, through the many organizations, he was able to do just that. This is resonated in one of his stewardship reports as the Illustrious Potentate of Zakat Temple #164, “Although, we have tried to eradicate illiteracy, we have fed some of the hungry, we have clothed some of the needy, we have administered to some of the sick, but as I stated in the beginning, we are not finished yet.” Isaac always felt that there was more work to do. So, he would encourage you to stay active and strive to help others when you can.
Left to cherish in his legacy are his devoted wife of 67 years, Marjorie Cary, children: Carolyn Sue Emeh, Isaac G. Cary, Jr., Brenda Randle, and Paula Dunlap (Johnny, Jr), 11 grandchildren: Sed (Melissa), Elaina (Brian), Sherrell, Kimberly (TyJuan), Robert Brandon, Ashley (Solomon), Ronald K. (Cecilia), Johnny III (Lauren), Jourdan, Jalyn, John Paul, 8 great-grandchildren: Elijah, Sinaya, Ajia, Sebastian, Ashlynn, Braven, Luna and Solomon Jaxson (SJ). In addition, he leaves many fond memories with his many special children who called him “dad”, as well as many loving family members, church members, masonic family members and dear friends.
Isaac George Cary Sr. always put God first in his life and believed in the power of prayer. He continued to pray and thank God even during that final morning. He was a good provider for his family and for many others. He has left a beautiful legacy filled with charitable giving and dedicated service.
