James Flores (age 61), beloved husband, father, Grumppa, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waxahachie on September 19, 2023. He was the loving husband of Belinda (Wauson) Flores for 22 years of marriage.
James was born in Dallas, Texas to Lucia (Sandoval) Perez and Oscar Flores on October 23, 1961. He graduated from Adamson High School and joined the US Marine Corps. He worked at Stanley Drug Company, Bergen Drug, AutoChlor, JumpKing before landing at Clark Dietrich Building Systems for that last 19 years.
Although it took some time for James and Belinda to figure out they were more than roommates, they married in May 2001 and settled into their life to find themselves wrapped up in making memories, traveling and building a family. Kathy was a light of James’s life, she brought him so much joy and her light only grew brighter with the addition of Hayes (5) and Adelyn (2). Lucas was James’s “little man” – he was always so proud of his accomplishments and could not wait to see him grow up so he could see how far he could go.
James was all in when it came to a new adventure, loved his family with all he had, dedicated to his job and always a Marine. He loved to take a drive in the truck or side by side as well as go camping and RVing. James took pride in his abilities to improvise to get something done, learning new things and exploring any chance he got. He had recently started planning for his retirement and was enjoying the journey of discovering what and how he would spend his retirement years doing.
James death has been a shock to all that knew him, he didn’t like sharing details about his medical issues and dismissed concerns with a shrug. His focus was making the most of the moment he was in and creating memorable moments through his laughter, bad jokes and always present ability to perform some feat of silliness (aka Stupid Human Tricks).
James is survived by his wife, Belinda; his daughter Kathy; his son Lucas; his grandchildren Hayes and Adelyn; his brothers Oscar Jr., Richard (Rita) and Alfonso; his sisters Christina, Sandy (Jaime) and Joanna Michelle (Javier); his mother-in-law Faye; his stepmother (Mercy); his father-in-law Bill; his sister-in-law Lori (Eric); as well as nieces, nephews, and aunt, uncles, cousins and a multitude of chosen family members and friends.
James will be truly missed, but his adventurous spirit, humor and work ethic will live on in his children and grandchildren.
In accordance with James’s wishes, his family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on November 19 at Old Bison Ranch, Forreston, Texas (1 - 5 p.m.).
The family would like to thank the 911 operator, medics, and sheriff deputies for their quick response and instruction during James’s emergency response as well as the amazing staff of Baylor Scott and White - Waxahachie for their care of James and compassion for the family during his final days.
