

Durwood was born in Quitman, Texas on July 25, 1936 to Cliffie and J.C. Wheeler. He graduated from Quitman High School. Durwood was married to Maxine on September 15, 1984; they were married until her death on June 8, 1999.
Durwood worked for Crum & Forster Insurance for his entire career. He was an accountant and a manager in the Collection Department. Durwood was actively involved with the Lavon Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. He volunteered with The Lighthouse Food Pantry for over 20 years. Durwood also enjoyed traveling with Maxine and Mathew, fishing with his sons, spending time with his grandchildren, and spoiling his dog.
Durwood is preceded in death by his parents J.C. and Cliffie, his brother A.G. Wheeler, his beloved wife Maxine and his grandson Mathew Stewart.
Durwood is survived by his step-daughter Denise Stewart, his sons: James Calvin (wife Cathy), Barry Dwayne(wife Kathleen), and Danny Alan(wife Sarah), grandchildren: Justin, Lesley(Brandon), Michael(Minda), John(Camila), Andrew, Amanda, and Kaitie; great-grandchildren: Kalib, Jade, Lily, Emerson, Jack, Lucy, and Leia, and his older brother John Wheeler.
A Visitation will be held at 9:00 am on August 21st at The Grove Hill Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 10:00 at the Grove Hill Chapel with Pastor Gary Coleman officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Prayer Garden at Grove Hill Cemetery immediately after the funeral service.
