Mrs. Janice Faye Bowman
“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine…let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!”
Mrs. Janice Faye Bowman was born on November 26, 1948 in Los Angeles, California to John and Ruth Thompson. As a child they moved from California to Dallas, Texas where she lived until God called her home. She let her light shine and lit the way for others.
Janice was educated in the Dallas Independent School District. She was a proud Lincoln Tiger of the Class of 1967! You could often see her in her purple and white, or sporting the Dallas Cowboys colors.
“Jesus gave it to me, I’m gonna let it shine…”
Attending and being active in church was the cornerstone of her life. She served in many areas of the Riverside Missionary Baptist Church. Janice was one of the first pianists. As a Youth Sponsor, she organized and chaperoned our youth on numerous trips and outings. She assisted with the Sunday School and served as the BTU Director. Her true calling was being a beloved Deaconess. She found joy in mentoring the younger ladies and being a beacon of love for all.
Janice married Robert Bowman Sr. and was blessed with four children: Chiniqua, Robert Jr., Brandon and James. However, she was affectionally known as “Nanny”, “God-Mommy”, “Sis. B” and “Aunt Janice” by many. During the football season, everyone would gather for dinner and watch the game together. She was very passionate about all sports, especially football. The smile on her face made us all winners, regardless of what the scoreboard reflected. She called her mother daily and would visit as often as she could.
“Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine…”
Janice was employed with the Dallas Independent School District as a clerk at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. Her title was clerk, but she was a counselor, confidante, protector, “stand-in parent”, and friend.
On Friday, May 7, 2021 God needed her light and she quietly went home with Him. She was surrounded by her family, just as if she was home watching her favorite team.
Her memory will live on through her mother, Ruth Williams; her daughter, Chiniqua Newsome (Gregory, Sr.); her sons: Robert Bowman, Jr, Brandon Bowman, and James Bowman; bonus daughter, Marquita Ward; bonus son, Curtis Ward III; sister, Aileen Philpott; grandchildren: Gregory II, Jalen, Adrienne, Danielle, Jordien, Sasha, Paige, and Miles; godchildren: Kim, Kevin, Steven, Jr., Richundra, Margo, Demoncenice, Kevine, and Steven; the Riverside MBC family, and countless others.
“Down in my heart, I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!”
