

Jean Reid Skillern Meador, 87, of Dallas, died Wednesday November 16. She was born on December 24, 1928 to Rae E. and Annie Skillern in Dallas. Jean attended Bradfield Elementary, Highland Park Junior High, Highland Park High School and graduated high school at Fairfax Hall School in Waynesboro, Virginia. She received a bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University in 1949, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. In 1972 after returning to SMU, she received a Master of Liberal Arts degree. In 1951 Jean married Henry Wallace Meador and they had five children and were married 61 years. A lifelong resident of Highland Park, Jean was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, the Junior League of Dallas, The Dallas Women’s Club and the Dallas Garden Club. She volunteered at Baylor Hospital in Dallas for 20+ years. Preceded in death by her sisters, Nancy Skillern Korn and Betty Skillern Baird; and her husband Wallace; she is survived by her five children and their families: Ann Williams, husband Mike, daughters Hannah and Emma Griffin and husband Spencer; Wilson Meador and wife Kenda North, daughters Cody and Daryl; Jeanie Chandler and husband Mickey; John and wife Tanya, sons William and Matthew and wife Kendra and children Brielle and Creed; son Thomas and wife Martha C and children Regan and Wesley. Additionally, she is survived by her dedicated friend, Lourdes Sanchez, and numerous other friends and family members. Jean was a reader and a learner, and in recent years an enthusiastic devotee of the New York Times crossword puzzle. She was also a dog lover and adopted numerous shelter dogs over several decades She will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, November 22, in Wynne Chapel at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to the Dallas SPCA or Operation Kindness.
