Jeffrey Lynn Maloney passed away on February 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Jeff was born on February 19, 1942, in Amarillo, Texas, to Grace Edna Maloney and Conrad Delbert Maloney. He was the very best dad, husband, and friend: equal parts dependable, kind, and just a little bit mischievous.
Jeff loved hunting, music, golf, running, and a well-timed practical joke. He was proudly known as a Cowtown Marathon finisher, though he would be quick to tell you that his hole‑in‑one with his best buddy Doug watching was the real achievement.
Jeff graduated from Tascosa High School and went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He never tired of telling stories from his time serving his country in Vietnam, including seeing the world from an aircraft carrier and even witnessing atomic bomb testing. After his service, Jeff returned to Amarillo, where he was set up on a blind date with Portia Pryor, the love of his life and, thankfully, someone who agreed to marry him.
Jeff and Portia honeymooned in Dallas and decided they liked it well enough to stay—a decision that shaped the rest of their lives. Jeff became a manager at the Theodore Effron Company before going on to start several successful businesses, including Daisytek and Alibates. He was deeply proud of the life he built in Dallas and of providing for his family through hard work, perseverance, and more than a little grit. He believed that he could fulfill any client request, even if he had to figure how the fulfill the request later.
Jeff is survived by his beloved wife, Portia Diane Maloney; his daughter, Marli Maloney Couch, and her husband, Chris; and his son, Mandon Maloney, and his wife, Melissa. He was a proud grandfather known as “Jefe” to Connor Houston Couch, Caden Jeffrey Couch, and Gray Montgomery Maloney, as well as step‑grandchildren Layla Desrosiers, Logan Desrosiers, and Zachary Desrosiers—all of whom knew him as someone who showed up and loved well.
A funeral service will be held on February 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, followed by a reception at The Republic Texas Tavern. A family burial will take place on February 22 at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeff’s memory to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, or Ursuline Academy of Dallas.
