Born October 21, 1944 to William “Buck” Cain and Mabel Porter Cain in Kaufman County, TX.
Jerry and his brother Dan M. Cain grew up in Dallas. He attended Bryan Adams High School and East Texas State University where he played football.
Jerry is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 53 years, Sharon Ann Cain, their three children and their families: Clayton (Tiffany), Angela Burke (Todd), Daniel (Ellen); grandchildren Madelyn and Ellie Cain, Porter, Elisabeth and Shelby Burke, Marshall and Travis Cain. His aunt, Helen Morris and his nieces Camille, Emily (John) and Rebecca (Aaron). He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Danny Morris Cain.
Jerry was known for his larger-than-life personality. He was always the life of the party, quick with a joke and a tremendous sense of humor. He was the KING of the zinger; always had a good one-liner. He LOVED to “jack” with people; especially those who were a little too serious for Jerry.
He always loved a good Texas road trip. Whether it was to the coast, the Hill Country or East Texas, there was nothing he enjoyed more than getting in the car and exploring the state and the country with his friends and family. Usually, the car contained a “rolling bar” that contained his “libations” for the evening.
Jerry had an infectious smile and a big hearty laugh. His wide array of musical interests spanned from country to blues, which happened to lead to his infatuation with playing the harmonica. Whether on the back patio or driving down a crowded freeway he loved blowing the harp. He had a twinkle in his eye as if he were always up to something. He loved to root for the underdog and was the consummate protector of others. He enjoyed hunting with life-long friends, many who date back to grade school. He loved his family and getting to spend time with them whenever he could.
We thank God for our time together and for all the life lessons he taught us. The family would also like to thank the frontline healthcare workers who worked tirelessly caring for Jerry.
