Jessie Coleman was born on November 19, 1941, in Greenwood, Louisiana. He was lovingly welcomed into the world by his mother, Perenie Bullard Coleman, and his father, Clemon Coleman. Jessie was one of twelve siblings born into this close-knit and faith-filled family, where love, humility, and strength were the foundation of their lives.
At a very early age, Jessie accepted Christ and joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Greenwood, Louisiana. He was always ready and intentionally willing to serve — whether through quiet acts of kindness or steady devotion to the church and its mission. His faith guided his steps throughout his life.
Jessie worked hard and dedicated many years of his life to providing for his family. He retired from Chaparral Steel Company in Midlothian, Texas, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and reliability.
Though he was strong in character and presence, Jessie was also soft-spoken and kind-hearted. He was outgoing and enjoyed traveling to many places. No matter what he faced, he never complained. When asked how he was doing, his calm and familiar response was always, “I’m alright.” The life Jessie lived will not die — he will continue to live in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved him. His legacy remains. Jessie met the love of his life, Carolyn Coleman, and they were united in marriage on June 24, 1965. Together, they spent 62 beautiful years of love and partnership. Carolyn remains here, carrying forward the life they built together.
After a courageous and strong fight, Jessie Coleman was called home by God on August 10, 2025, at UT Southwestern Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clemon and Perenie Bullard Coleman; his daughters Cassandra Coleman and Trisha Coleman; his sister, Lela V. Lockett; and five brothers: Robert Coleman, John Henry Coleman, Lugene Coleman, Cleveland Coleman, Floyd Coleman, and Oscar Coleman.
Jessie leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and strength. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Coleman; his beloved son, Christopher Coleman; his siblings: Nathan Coleman, Legirtha Miller, Regina Sanifder (Jerry), and Jurlean Sloan; and his cherished grandchildren: Ebony Kennedy, Caeyton Coleman, Satchel Coleman, Garyn Coleman, and Peyton Coleman. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, classmates, and friends who will continue to carry his memory in their hearts.
