

Jo Nell (Hicks) Henderson "Jodi", 87, of Farmers Branch, Texas, passed away on February 20,2024. She died peacefully at home after spending the day with her children.
Jodi was born on May 25, 1936, to Henry and Ferril Hicks in Colorado City, Texas. She received her Bachelor of Education from Texas Christian University, and her Masters of Education from Texas Woman's University. She taught in the Dallas Independent School District for 37 years, 35 of which were in the same elementary school. Jodi was loved and respected by the families in the surrounding neighborhood. By the time she retired she was teaching the grandchildren of her first students.
Jodi was a devoted single parent of four, committed to her children, despite being on a teacher's salary. She understood the importance of family, always prioritizing their needs. Saving diligently, she ensured her kids could engage in activities like orchestra, piano, synchronized swimming, horseback riding, choir, drill team, football and soccer. Her frugality and commitment to saving were remarkable feats in challenging circumstances.
Preceded in death by her husband, Marland Henderson; her parents, Henry and Ferril Hicks; and her siblings, Bobbye Wilson and Jimmy Hicks. Jodi is survived by her children, Shanon Petty and husband Ben, Shawn Medina and husband Bulmaro, Shirley Dornback and husband Jason, and David Preston Shore, III and wife Cheryl (Cricket); eight grandchildren, Phillip Lacey, Treston Monje, Chris Medina, Nicole Hillner, Shawntee Neie, David Preston Shore, IV, Trenton Petty, Jacob Medina; and nine great-grandchildren.
