Joe Ned Alexander was born September 18, 1933, to Elnora and L. A. Alexander in Panola County, Texas. He was one of four children born into that marriage: brother Billy James, sisters Flora and Viola. The Alexander family held membership at Pine Grove Baptist Church in the Holland Quarters Community of Carthage, Texas. Joe loved music, gardening, family, and public service. Committed to his country, the Army Corporal continued to serve in the United States Army Reserve for eight years.
Joe furthered his education by attending Wiley College. While attending Tyler Barber College, he met and fell in love with Ruby Lee McQuay. The couple married in Dallas, Texas, on January 21, 1956, and later joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Joe and Ruby were blessed with one son, Randy Joe.
Joe served as a police officer for the Dallas Police Department. Later, he became a Loss Prevention Department Manager at Target Stores. He also served as private security for Pinkerton and other companies. Joe would serve 18 years as a Police Officer for Dallas County Community College District before retirement.
