Dr. John Dupont Seifert, MD of Garland, Texas died October 11, 2019 of complications from pulmonary fibrosis. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Nilan; son John, wife Terry; daughter Heidi; son Chris, wife Robbi; son Mark; son Timothy, wife Candice; son Jason, wife Tara; son Nicholas, wife Kristine; 24 loving grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. He was born October 5, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN to Dr. Milton and Laura Seifert. John grew up in Excelsior, MN surrounded by his 6 brothers and sister. He was preceded in death by brothers Jack, Peter and Greg and is survived by brothers Milton, Paul, Tom and sister Mary. John attended St. Thomas Military Academy; College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, and received his medical degree from Marquette University Medical School in Milwaukee, WI. He began his medical practice by joining his father and brothers at the Seifert clinic in Excelsior, MN. John served in the Army during the Vietnam war as a captain at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He completed his medical training at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and began his Otolaryngology medical practice in Garland, TX in 1968. John was a diplomat of the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery; certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery; and was a founding member of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. John served on the Board of Managers of the Dallas County Hospital District; founder of the Texas Regional Medical Center, Mesquite, TX; Medical Director of the Garland Community Hospital’s ENT Laser and Sleep Services Program. He was a strong advocate of hearing screenings and was instrumental in developing school hearing screenings throughout the Dallas area. John loved to travel and combined travel with volunteer medical services. He loved the outdoors: skiing, hunting, fishing, his ranch, and gardening. John loved to entertain and cook for his family and friends, he was the life of the party. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home in Dallas, TX, on Friday, October 18th 5:30-7:30 pm, with a rosary at 7:30pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel, Roman Catholic Church in Garland, TX on Saturday October 19th at 11:00 am.
