The thirteenth and youngest child of Joseph and Rose Gebauer, Josephine Judith Gebauer Newlin was born on a farm in Lavacca County, Texas on April 8th, 1923. She passed away on March 24, 2011; two weeks shy of her 88th birthday. She grew up on the family farm in the hill country area where many of her family still reside. She graduated from Moulton High School in 1941 and then moved to Houston where she attended business school and belonged to Alpha Kappa Psi business sorority. She spent her 20s dancing at the USO, travelling, and working in the oil industry where she met her husband. She married Floyd Newlin in 1953 and they had four children. Upon moving to Dallas in 1959, the family enjoyed being members of St. Monica Parish and Sparkman Community Club. She was a wonderful wife and mother, but where she really shined was in her role as the “best grandmother in the world,” according to her grandkids. She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Newlin, and her ten sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her four children: Terry Schroeder and spouse George, Sharon Clinkscales and spouse Gary, Sheila Selly and spouse Tim, and favorite son John Newlin and spouse Chaylor. She enjoyed and was especially proud of her eight grandchildren: Spencer Schroeder and wife Juli, Michael and Brandon Clinkscales, Nicole, Bud, and Brett Selly, and Mark and Meghan Newlin. She was also blessed with four great grandchildren: Cale, Camryn, Caisyn, and Cutler Schroeder. She leaves behind her devoted, loving caregivers, Angela Cantero and Patricia Kelly who made her last years so wonderful. The family feels forever grateful for these angels who fulfilled and enriched her life.
